WORLDS 2016: Get To Know The Group Stage

This week marks the start of the 2016 League of Legends World Championship. Before we jump in on the excitement and action-packed games of the Group Stage to be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, here's a quick guide on the first two weeks of Worlds:

The Teams

There are a total of 16 teams who will be participating in this 2016 World Championships. These 16 teams from around the globe will be sorted out into 4 groups which will be comprised of 4 teams in each group.

Here are the participating teams from their respective regions:


Tencent LoL Pro League (LPL)

LPL is a professional League of Legends tournament hosted in China. The league has a total of three participating teams in the 2016 World Championship.

  1. Edward Gaming - (Top) Mouse, (Jungle) Clearlove, (Mid) Scout, (AD) Deft, (Support) Meiko

  2. Royal Never Give Up - (Top) Looper, (Jungle) mlxg, (Mid) Xiaohu, (AD) Uzi, (Support) Mata

  3. I May - (Top) AmazingJ, (Jungle) Avoidless, (Mid) Athena, (AD) Jinjiao, (Support) Road


LoL Champions Korea (LCK)

LCK is a professional League of Legends tournament hosted in South Korea. The league has a total of three participating teams in the 2016 World Championship.

 

  1. ROX Tigers - (Top) Smeb, (Jungle) Peanut, (Mid) kurO, (AD) PraY, (Support) GorillA

  2. SK Telecom T1 - (Top) Duke, (Jungle) Blank, (Mid) Faker, (AD) Bang, (Support) Wolf

  3. Samsung Galaxy - (Top) CuVee, (Jungle) Ambition, (Mid) Crown, (AD) Ruler, (Support) Wraith


North American LoL Championship Series (NA LCS)

NA LCS is a professional League of Legends tournament hosted in North America. The league has a total of three participating teams in the 2016 World Championship.

  1. Team Solo Mid - (Top) Hauntzer, (Jungle) Svenskeren, (Mid) Bjergsen, (AD) Doublelift, (Support) Biofrost

  2. Cloud9 - (Top) Impact, (Jungle) Meteos, (Mid) Jensen, (AD) Sneaky, (Support) Smoothie

  3. Counter Logic Gaming - (Top) Darshan, (Jungle) Xmithie, (Mid) HuHi, (AD) Stixxay, (Support) Aphromoo

 

European LoL Championship Series (EU LCS)

EU LCS is a professional League of Legends tournament hosted in Europe. The league has a total of three participating teams in the 2016 World Championship.

  1. G2 Esports - (Top) Expect, (Jungle) Trick, (Mid) PerkZ, (AD) Zven, (Support) Mithy

  2. Splyce - (Top) Wunder, (Jungle) Trashy, (Mid) Sencux, (AD) Kobbe, (Support) Mikyx

  3. H2K Gaming - (Top) Odoamne, (Jungle) Jankos, (Mid) Ryu, (AD) FORG1VEN, (Support) VandeR

 

LoL Master Series (LMS)

LMS is a professional League of Legends tournament hosted in Taiwan. The league has a total of two participating teams in the 2016 World Championship

  1. Flash Wolves - (Top) MMD, (Jungle) Karsa, (Mid) Maple, (AD) NL, (Support) Swordart

  2. AHQ e-Sports Club - (Top) Ziv, (Jungle) Mountain, (Mid) Westdoor, (AD) An, (Support) Albis


International Wildcard Qualifiers (IWCQ)

IWCQ is a professional League of Legends tournament qualifiers to represent the Wildcard Regions (Latin America, Brazil, CIS, Oceania, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Turkey). This league has a total of two participating teams in the 2016 World Championship

  1. INTZ e-Sports - (Top) Yang, (Jungle) Revolta, (Mid) Tockers, (AD) micaO, (Support) Jockster

  2. Albus NoX Luna - (Top) Smurf, (Jungle) PvPStejos, (Mid) Kira, (AD) aMiracle, (Support) Likkrit


The Groupings

Last September 10 the 2016 Worlds Group Draw was conducted wherein the final groupings of the 16 qualified team around the globe will be sorted out into four groups with four teams each. Teams in a group should not be of the same region, if a team with the similar region is  drawn in a group it will be automatically be moved in the next group.
